Israeli Future Leaders Visit Cleveland: August 2010

From August 6-12, the Jewish Federation of Cleveland hosted 22 Atidim Cadets for the Public Sector and two staff members to help them learn more about how businesses, nonprofits and governments work separately and together for economic development, and how this knowledge can be applied in Israel.  After beginning their stay with host families and celebrating Shabbat, they kicked off five days of academic study with a Sunday morning brunch that included a welcome by Overseas Connections Committee Chair Larry Kadis and Federation President Steve Hoffman.

A few of the highlights included:

·     Meeting with Tom Adler, Chairman of Playhouse Square Real Estate Services and Art Falco, President and CEO of the Playhouse Square Association.

·     Spending an afternoon and evening with Ari Maron of MRN Limited touring downtown Cleveland and hearing about upcoming projects.

·     Listening to a panel discussion on health care with organizations such as MedWorks, the Free Clinic, Cleveland Clinic's Wellness Institute and Metro Health.

·     Visiting the Global Cardio-Vascular Innovation Center, BioEnterprise and the Beachwood Development Center.

·     Learning about vision in economic development from Jill Snyder, director of MOCA and Mary Ann Stropkay of the Evergreen Development Fund.

·     Hearing about the needs of the region at a suburban mayors' panel that also included YLD National Board Member Carin Rockind, who is Vice President of Marketing for Team NEO.

A thread throughout the mission was the strong involvement of the work group chaired by Rebecca Bar-Shain and Amy Budish and included several new young leaders including Max Blachman from Senator Sherrod Brown's office, Daniel Fellenbaum formerly of Congresswoman Marcia Fudge's office, Rani Gilady and Noam Schafer.

In addition to their time in Cleveland, they also visited Washington, D.C., West Palm Beach and Philadelphia. We look forward to watching the future unfold for these bright young future leaders.
